Traditional HFCs

Details of the traditional HFC refrigerants used by manufacturers and service engineers in a variety of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

R134A

R134a is a refrigerant which does not deplete the ozone layer (ODP = 0), and is therefore not subject to phase-out regulations (except in mobile air conditioning).

It has a high critical temperature, which ensures a good coefficient of performance, especially at high condensing temperatures in air-cooled systems.

R134a can be used for a wide range of applications such as mobile air-conditioning, transport, commercial and industrial air-conditioning and refrigeration.

R404A

A widely accepted HFC refrigerant alternative to the CFC R502, which does not deplete the ozone layer and is not subject to any phase-out regulation.

Can be used in refrigerant applications from -45°C to +15°C (evaporation temperature) in new installations, and offers similar or improved performance compared to R502 and R22 without any specific handling concern.

Well suited to commercial, transport and industrial refrigeration.

R407C

R407C possesses thermodynamic properties which correspond well to those of R22.

R407C can, in many instances, be used with equipment originally designed for R22.

It can be used in all types of comfort air-conditioning equipment (split systems, packaged air-conditioners or water chillers).

R407C is a widely accepted R22 alternative for direct expansion systems operating at high temperatures.

R410A

R410A is a non-ozone-depleting blend of two HFC refrigerants.

It exhibits higher pressures and refrigeration capacity than R22, and these in turn deliver performance benefits.

R410A offers a better Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) than R22 or R407C.

It is a suitable replacement for new applications previously operating with R22.

Many refrigeration and air-conditioning manufacturers have equipment specifically developed for R410A.

Applications where R410A might be used include air-conditioning, chillers and commercial refrigeration.

R407A

R407A is an R22 replacement for low and medium temperature refrigeration.

It has a good capacity and energy match for R-22 and provides excellent heat reclaim. It has a GWP that is half of R404A. It must be used with synthetic oils.
